Judge seals decision in Greitens family court case
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boone County judge closed off her decision in a family court case involving the state's former governor.
Judge Leslie Schneider ordered her decision that would determine where Eric Greitens and Sheena Chestnut Greitens will handle their ongoing family court case sealed on Friday. Boone County court staff told ABC 17 News that Schneider's judgment also ordered the decision sealed.
Schneider was considering a request from Sheena Greitens to move the case to Travis County, Texas, where she works and lives. The case would control the terms of the couple's 2020 divorce, including any child custody disputes. Eric Greitens opposed the request.
ABC 17 News asked the Boone County court to unseal the order. Attorneys for both sides of the case did not respond to a request for comment on the order.
Online docket entries show that the Boone County court mailed a copy of the order to Travis County.
Filings in the family court case this year gained national attention when Sheena Greitens accused her ex-husband of hitting her and their children. Eric Greitens, who unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, faced campaign ads quoting from Sheena's affidavit. The couple sat for closed-door depositions in July.
Greitens was elected governor in 2016 but resigned in 2018 amid scandals in his personal and political life.
