Missouri Senator Hawley defends Trump in midst of investigation

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) came to Former President Donald Trump's defense when asked about the Manhattan District Attorney's investigation.

Hawley called the investigation a "transparent" attempt to negate Trump's chances of winning the 2024 presidential election.

"If Democrats can make up crimes to interfere in elections then what will stop future prosecutors from doing the same darn thing over and over," Hawley said.

The Manhattan DA responded to similar allegations saying his office evaluates cases based on the facts, the law and the evidence.

The investigation is looking into alleged hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels during Trump's previous presidential campaign. Although Trump predicted he'd be arrested last week, he has not.

This weekend, Trump had his first campaign stop in Waco, Texas.
