Man seriously injured in Phelps County crash

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Editor's Note: Source errors from the original Highway Patrol crash report have been corrected.

A 54-year-old man was seriously injured after a truck rear-ended his motorcycle on Interstate 44 in Phelps County, about three miles west of Doolittle, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The crash occurred as Patrick Rippy, of Owensburg, Indiana, was driving in the westbound lane and began to slow down his 2023 Harley Davidson because of traffic conditions, according to the report. A 2019 Ford F350 – driven by Mitchell Lawrence, 30, of Salem, Missouri – rear-ended the Harley and ejected Rippy from the motorcycle, the report states.

The Harley went off the left side of the road and hit a median cable barrier, the report states.

The report states that Rippy was wearing a helmet and he was flown to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The Ford had minor damage and the Harley had moderate damage, according to the report.
