City Council to vote on travel funds for True/False filmmakers

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Planning the 20th annual True/False Film Festival is truly a numbers game.

Over the course of three days, March 2 through 5, the event will feature 130 screenings of 35 full-length documentaries and 20 short films.

Large crowds often follow the festival, but the Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board estimates over 10,000 visitors to the Columbia area this year. Including over 150 filmmakers, artists and musicians. 

As an incentive to out-of-area filmmakers and to help cover travel costs, Columbia City Council will discuss a sponsorship with Ragtag Film Society during Monday’s City Council meeting. The Convention and Visitors Bureau votes to recommend $15,000 in tourism development funds.

The funds would first go to Ragtag, which would then give the money to filmmakers to help with any travel expenses. The pitch isn’t new either, similar sponsorships were passed by the council over the past two years.

2022 marked the first year since the festival returned to inside venues after the pandemic.

Passes to the festival are available on the True/False website. Specific tickets to films will open online starting at 10 a.m. Monday.
