VERSAILLES, Mo. (KMIZ)

Sheriff's deputies found the body of a missing Sedalia man in a Morgan County pond last week, the sheriff's office said Tuesday.

Deputies were called Friday to a piece of property near Route M and Pond Road for a report of a body being discovered, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Investigators identified the man as Jimmy "JD" Collins, who was reported missing from Sedalia around Thanksgiving, according to the release.

Authorities using a Kansas City police aircraft team found Collins' vehicle Saturday in a pond near where his body was found, the sheriff's office said. An autopsy performed in Columbia on Monday showed hypothermia might have contributed to Collins' death, according to the release.

The sheriff's office didn't outline any theories about how Collins ended up in Morgan County.
