JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public awareness session on the permitting process for landfills next month, according to a press release.

The session will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the DNR’s conference center at 1730 E. Elm St. in Jefferson City.

Representatives of the department's Waste Management Program, Missouri Geological Survey and Northeast Regional Office, and representatives from Republic Services, will be available to answer questions.

Republic Services obtained preliminary site investigation approval to begin a geologic investigation for expanding its landfill in Cole County. The proposed site is located at 5605 Moreau River Access Road in Jefferson City, about 6.5 miles northwest of the intersection at Highways 50 and 63.

This public session will explain the application review process and the timeline for ruling on the permit application.
