Man accused of assaulting victim at Columbia apartment complex pleads guilty

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man accused of assaulting another person at a Columbia apartment complex and holding them against their will for a ransom pleaded guilty to multiple charges on Monday.

Ralik Brooks pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree domestic assault, drug possession and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced to seven years in prison. Brooks filed a motion for a rehearing on Tuesday.

Court documents in previous reporting say Brooks allegedly held someone against their will at The Links in Columbia for a $350 ransom in January. Brooks allegedly assaulted the victim and police later saw the victim suffering from multiple injuries.

Brooks had allegedly called the victim’s mother and demanded $350, which was paid through the smartphone application CashApp, court documents say. Brooks allegedly broke the victim’s phone afterwards so they could not call police. Brooks is from New York and planned on leaving Columbia that same day, according to court documents.
