JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man who was accused of firing a gun during a fight in Jefferson City saw his assault charge upgraded and received an additional charge.
Derrek Maurer, 28 was charged on Thursday with illegal gun possession, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was previously charged with illegal gun possession and second-degree assault. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. An arraignment for the new charges is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to previous reporting, police were called to the 1200 block of East High Street on March 24 for a report of a shooting. However, when they arrived, no one was hit by a bullet, according to court documents. Maurer allegedly fired a gun near the victim’s head during a fight.
Maurer allegedly was not invited to the home, but arrived to the residence and would not leave, court documents say. A witness had told Maurer to leave before the fight ensued, court documents say. Police found a shell casing, the probable cause statement says.
Maurer was sent to an area hospital with injuries, while the victim had a hand injury and stated he would get it checked out later, court documents say.
