A man who sought a new trial over the death of a snake breeder from Montgomery County has lost his appeal.

A judge dismissed a request for retrial for Michael Humphrey, who was convicted of first-degree murder in October 2021 for killing Ben Renick.

Attorneys for Michael Humphrey filed his appeal on Jan. 26 in the state's Eastern District Court of Appeals.

The appeal says the judge should not have allowed a key witness to testify about information with a codefendant on who was involved in the crime.

Humphrey was convicted along with Renick's wife, Lynlee Renick, who is serving 16 years in prison for second-degree murder.
