Phelps County woman charged with involuntary manslaughter after child dies

ROLLA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Rolla woman is charged with involuntary manslaughter and other felony charges after a child died after allegedly falling into a pool, according to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office.

Emily Kate Buell, 33, is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and abused or neglect of a child resulting in death. Buell is being held at the Phelps County Jail on a $100,000 bond. A court date has not been set.

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Office said on its social media that it received a call at 10:17 a.m. Monday about a 2-year-old boy allegedly falling into a swimming pool in the 11000 Block of Cedar Grove Lane.

The boy was transported to Phelps Health in a private vehicle and was eventually pronounced dead.
