Conservation Department investigating after dead geese dumped in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Conservation is investigating goose poaching after carcasses were found in Columbia.

The department says in a news release that several members of the public found seven dead birds along Rock Quarry Road on Sunday. The season for Canada geese doesn't begin until Oct. 5 in Missouri.

The birds had been shot dead and no part of the carcass was used.

The department is asking for the public's help in finding the alleged poachers. Tips can be called in to Boone County conservation agents Brandon Cotter at 573-777-2072 or Adam Doerhoff at 573-239-6541.

They can also call the Operation Game Thief hotline at 800-392-1111.
