Driver wounds Kansas City officer after grabbing gun during traffic stop
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Police say a driver shot and wounded an officer during a traffic stop. They say the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening. A statement from police spokesperson Sgt. Jake Becchina says it happened after the driver was pulled over around 10:15 p.m. Monday for a traffic violation. More officers were called to assist because of what police described as the “potential impairment of the driver.” Then the situation escalated. Police say the man “was able to access a firearm” and shoot one of the officers. Police aren’t saying whether the weapon belonged to one of the officers.
