Man allegedly assaulting a Joplin police officer is shot

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Joplin police say an officer shot a man who was allegedly assaulting another officer. Police Capt. Trevor Duncan says the shooting occurred Saturday night when officers stopped three people who were walking in an alley. One of the people ran and was chased by an officer on foot. Duncan says that person assaulted the officer, and another officer shot the suspect. The suspect was being treated at a hospital. The officer who was assaulted was treated at the scene. No other information was immediately released.
