Springfield child care operator charged in death of infant

KMIZ

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A southwestern Missouri child care provider faces manslaughter and other charges after an infant died when she allegedly left him and eight other young children home alone. Springfield officers were called to a home on March 2 after Deborah Lundstrom reported that an 8-month-old boy under her care was not breathing. CPR efforts failed and the boy was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police say Lundstrom left nine children, all under the age of 3, alone for about 12 minutes, including the infant who was in a car seat. Police say Lundstrom discovered upon her return that the boy was not breathing. A cause of death remains under investigation.
