No one hurt after yard fire at Boone County home

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County Fire Protection District Crews have reopened the 2000 block of East Calvert Hill Road in Boone County after an early morning fire.

Clint Walker, Battalion Chief for Boone County Fire says crews were dispatched to a home within the block around 4:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Walker says the homeowner was smoking a cigarette 20-30 minutes prior to the incident when the owner made the attempt to put the cigarette out in the yard.

Boone County Fire says they believe the failed attempt is what started the fire causing the grass, a tree, and yard materials to catch fire.

Fire officials say no one was hurt and they cleared the scene around 5:15 a.m. Friday morning.
