Organizations to host marketing workshop in Jefferson City for small business owners

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Several organizations from the Jefferson City area will hold a free marketing workshop Friday morning.

The "How to Own Your Local Market" marketing workshop will be at First Mid Bank & Trust from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Anyone interested in attending the workshop can register before 8 a.m. Although, organizers say walk-ins are also welcomed.

According to organizers, the workshop will teach small business owners about online marketing strategies designed to grow their businesses. The free event expects to cover customer relations, starting a business, marketing, and sales topics.

Attendees will also learn about digital tools like search engine optimization (SEO), social media, and Google.

Karen Thompson, a woman who owns a Liberty Tax Franchise in Jefferson City and attended Friday Workshop says a marketing workshop can help take her business to another level.

"I'm a numbers person, I'm not a marketing person. So and I know when you're in business for yourself, you're self-employed, you need to know how to market your product as well," said Thompson

According to a U.S. Census Bureau Small Business Pulse survey, the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative effect on 50% of small businesses and 80% of small businesses reported a decrease in revenue.

Members of Minority Business Council of Jefferson City say they will also be in attendance. The Minority Business Council of Jefferson City is affiliated with the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce. Council members help minority businesses develop strategic plans, connect with available resources, and advocate for growth.
