New Panera Bread coming to south Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Panera Bread Co. signed a lease to build a new location at the corner of Nifong Blvd and Providence Road.

The new Panera will be located in the former Gerbes Super Market parking lot. It will replace Panera currently located in the shopping center across the street.

Plans show the new location will take over parking spaces in the lot.

Preliminary plans show the new location is set to open in summer 2020.

Site plans show the new Panera will feature a Drive-Thru and have outdoor seating.

ABC 17 News contacted Panera Bread Company to find out how this will affect employees at the Panera currently open across the street.

  1. This seems like a short term solution to a long term problem. Is Nifong ready to take on the turn traffic into that parking lot with just the current businesses? It also has a resemblance to the Starbucks/ Sonic drive thru debacle currently happening down the road. I get it, the current Panera needs to change, but this doesn’t feel well thought out for the greater good of Columbia.
