Higbee man in custody after car chase through Moberly

A Higbee man is in custody after leading law enforcement on a car and foot chase in Moberly.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a trooper attempted to pull over David W. Asher, 32, of Higbee for a traffic violation around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Asher failed to stop on Highway 24 and led authorities on a car chase before his pickup truck was stopped by tire deflation devices, which disabled his truck.

Moberly police and Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies were called in to assist in the pursuit.

Troopers say Asher then began to flee on foot near Emerson Street in Moberly.

Asher was taken into custody a short time later, but authorities say Moberly police officer Travis Mitchell was injured when he was struck by a Randolph County Sheriff’s Department vehicle during the pursuit.

Ofc. Mitchell received a minor injury and was transported to Moberly Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Asher was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license, two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, among other charges.
