Escaped fugitive Brian Adkison captured in Ohio
Escaped Missouri fugitive Brian Adkison has been captured in Ohio, according to authorities.
The Westlake Police Department confirmed to ABC 17 News that Adkison was arrested Wednesday.
Around 1 p.m., he was spotted by a resident on a bike, before fleeing into woods nearby. Officers set up a perimeter in the area and discovered Adkison in a nursing home around 1:25 p.m.
Affiliate WEWS-TV reports a nursing home administrator held Adkison in a headlock until officers arrived. They believe he was attempting to elude police by hiding in the facility.
Westlake police arrested him after a brief struggle. Police say he is not cooperating with authorities.
No local charged have been filed yet. It is unknown if or when he will be transferred back to Missouri.
Caldwell County Sheriff Jerry Galloway told ABC 17 News he is thankful to the residents and law enforcement of Ohio for capturing Adkison.
On Tuesday, Adkison led Ohio authorities on a car and foot chase, after he was spotted sleeping in a pickup truck.
Adkison, 23, escaped from the Caldwell County Jail in Kingston, Mo. on Aug. 10 and had been on the run ever since. He is wanted on charges in several Missouri counties and for the rape and kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend, a University of Missouri student.
He was also the center of a nearly week-long manhunt at the Lake of the Ozarks earlier this year.
Adkison’s former girlfriend and kidnapping victim tweeted after the capture, stating: “Brian Adkison is back in custody. God is good!”
The father of Adkison’s ex-girlfriend says the family can breath a sigh of relief knowing Adkison is back behind bars.
“I want to say a big thank you to local law enforcement. So many people all over the country supporting us, the local law enforcement,” John Crawford said, “all the support is amazing and overwhelming. We are very thankful.”
Crawford said the reward money will be given to a Caldwell Co. women’s shelter.
