Columbia events to cause weekend traffic impacts
COLUMBIA,Mo. (KMIZ)
Events taking place in Columbia Saturday are anticipated to cause some traffic impacts.
Mizzou is set to kickoff for their game against Abilene Christian at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. As people may decide to attend, there will be some traffic impacts to look out for.
Parking spaces will be limited, with large crowds anticipated to be in attendance, so finding parking early would be best.
If you want free parking, fans would need to use the downtown parking garages outlined in red, shown on the University of Missouri Parking Map which include Turner Avenue, Conley Avenue, Hitt Street, University Avenue, and Virginia Street Garages.
Individuals can also pay a $35 cash-only fee to use the lots outlined in green or $200 to park their RV in the Truman's landing lot.
People will also need to remember as they travel the campus area to use caution and watch out for any game day pedestrians.
The City of Columbia will also provide free shuttle rides to and from Saturday's game.
Individuals can download shuttle routes to track their transportation for the game. Downtown routes are set to begin at 8:30 Saturday morning.
The 44th Annual Heritage festival and Craft Show is also set to make its return to Columbia and is set to run from Sept 17. through Sept.18. from 10:00 a.m until 5:00 p.m. each day.
The festival and craft show is organized by Columbia Parks and Rec and will be free to all those interested.
The event is set to feature various activities including traditional roots and entertainment on three stages and a handmade craft show.
Recreation and Community Superintendent Cavelle Cole-Neal says its his first year overseeing the festival.
While keeping things organized can be challenge, Cole- Neal said the work is well worth it. "I would say the biggest thing I want people to take away from the event is the park in the experience itself. Take some time to spend in the park, walk around, check people out," said Neal.

The city says reenactors, artisans and tradespersons dressed in 19th century attire will demonstrate their lost trades and sell their articles. The city says using cash for purchases is best since there is no atm at the park.
Due to the event, some traffic in the area will flow differently. Parking is limited, so the city ask those attending to park at the Discovery Office Park Development and The Columbia Sports Fieldhouse.
Free shuttle rides will be provided from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m on both event days to drop people off at the Boone County History and Culture Center so they can attend the event.
Handicapped parking will also be available in the lot behind Maplewood Barn.
Organizers say the grounds can be difficult for wheelchairs and people should use the sidewalk north of the museum for the best access to the park from the museum or the sidewalk from the Nifong lot that goes to the maplewood barn stage then through the children’s area.
Event organizers say they discourage bringing pets to the festival but if you do choose to bring your dog, they must be on a 4-foot leash.
