Rolla High School closed after suspicious package reported

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A report of a suspicious package shut down Rolla High School on Tuesday, Rolla Public Schools said in a Facebook post.

"Law enforcement officers are currently on-site at Rolla High School and the building has been placed in secure mode due to a report of a suspicious package," the district said Tuesday morning. "Our top priority is ensuring the safety of students and staff members while an investigation is being conducted. We will communicate with you as soon as we have more information. The building is currently being evacuated, but we ask that you wait for further notice prior to picking up your child."

In an update posted later in the morning, the district said the school had been shut down for the day. Law enforcement was "still working to determine the credibility of the threat," the district said.

Students were not able to go back into buildings after leaving, the district said.
