No. 13 Mizzou softball captures a win in game one against No. 9 Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)
The No. 13 Mizzou softball team has a one-game advantage over No. 9 Georgia out of the gates, after Friday night's 4-2 win in Athens.
Head coach Larissa Anderson's group jumped out to a 4-0 lead through six innings and that ended up being all the offense they needed. The Bulldogs did scratch two runs across in the home half of the sixth inning, but to no avail.
The regining SEC Freshman of the Week, Stefania Abruscato, and Katie Chester each tallied one RBI for MU in the win. The other two runs were scored on a couple of Georgia errors in the fifth inning.
The real show came in the circle for Mizzou, however. Senior Laurin Krings notched her 50th career win to improve to 10-7 overall in 2024. She tossed for 5.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Krings struck out five batters in her landmark win, as well.
Closer Taylor Pannell earned her 10th save of the season. She came in in the seventh inning and struck out one batter, while not allowing a hit.
Up next - due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, Mizzou and Georgia will close out the three-game series on Saturday in doubleheader fashion. The first game of the day will start at 1 p.m. CT and the final game of the series will start 45 minutes after that wraps up.
