Mizzou softball freshman earns first-ever SEC weekly honors

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou designated player Stefania Abruscato was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, on Tuesday afternoon. The award marks the first conference honors of her black and gold career.

The New York native paced Mizzou over the course of a 3-1 week, batting .417 with three RBI, three runs scored and one home run in the series win over No. 9 Florida and midweek win against Drake.

Abruscato had a career game against Drake, on April 10. She went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs. She also hit her second Tiger home run in the fourth inning, which marked her second career multi-RBI game and second career multi-hit game.

She also tallied two hits in the 2-1 series win against the Gators, as she hit in three-straight games. Overall, she is batting .250 in her first season of college softball.

Up next - Abruscato and the Tigers will play in the final midweek game of the season on Wednesday, April 17. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
