No. 12/13 Mizzou softball sweeps opening day of East Coast road swing
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (KMIZ)
The No. 12/13 Mizzou softball team opened up its spring break road trip with two wins in doubleheader action on Tuesday. The Tigers beat both Fordham and Hofstra to improve 27-7 on the season.
In game one against Fordham, head coach Larissa Anderson and company throttled the Rams, 20-0, in five innings. MU out-hit the opponent 15-1 as seven Tigers registered an RBI in the win.
Mya Dodge led the charge with five RBI and Rock Bridge alum Abby Hay was right behind her with four RBI of her own.
Sophomore pitcher Cierra Harrison spun a beauty of a game against Fordham. She tossed for 4.2 innings and allowed no runs on just one hit, while adding on six strikeouts.
Game two was a much lower-scoring affair. Mizzou got past Anderson's old school, Hofstra, 2-1 in extra innings to wrap up day one of the road trip.
New York native Stefania Abruscato played hero for the Tigers, as she hit the game-winning RBI single to plate Jefferson City native Kara Daly and give Mizzou the 2-1 lead.
In the circle, Laurin Krings went four innings in her start. She three strikeouts and allowed no runs on three hits. Freshman Marissa McCann came in to finish out the game against Hofstra. She struck out five batters and allowed one earned run on one hit. McCann did earn the win to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Up next - No. 12/13 Mizzou will continue its East Coast road trip with a game against George Mason on Thursday, March 28. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
