Harrison’s shutout lifts Mizzou to first SEC series win of the season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The No. 12 Mizzou softball team improved to 20-2 on the season with a 5-0 win against No. 25 Auburn on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Tigers secured their first conference series win of the season.

Sophomore pitcher Cierra Harrison was lights out in game two. She tossed a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts and allowed just five hits from Auburn. Harrison is now 7-0 to start her season.

The MU offense got going early, as shortstop Jenna Laird came home on a wild pitch in the first inning. That was followed up by a four-run second inning by Mizzou, courtesy of a Chantice Phillips three-run homer and an RBI single from Alex Honnold.

Up next - Head coach Larissa Anderson and company will look for the series sweep on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
