Mizzou clinches NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic title, upsets No. 5/7 Clemson
CLEARWATER, Fla. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Softball is leaving the Sunshine State as the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic champions. Larissa Anderson's crew capped off a 5-0 start to its 2024 campaign with a 4-1 win over No. 5/7 Clemson.
The Tigers scored three runs in the opening frame of the title game, courtesy of RBI singles from Alex Honnold, Julia Crenshaw and Katie Chester. That was plenty of run support for starting pitcher Laurin Krings, who allowed no earned runs and posted six strikeouts over seven innings of work.
Mizzou posted four other victories down in Clearwater, Florida, including a ranked victory over No. 13/16 Utah in its season opener. The Tigers also run-ruled NC State and Liberty and recorded a comeback victory over South Alabama on Saturday night.
