Benton County man who escaped from Phelps County Jail indicted

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Warsaw, Missouri, man with federal charges who escaped from the Phelps County Jail last month has been indicted, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

Jonathan S. O’Dell, 33, was charged earlier this month with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. A court date for the new charges has not been set.

According to Tuesday’s release, O’Dell was federally charged with one count of escaping from custody in a superseding indictment. This third superseding indictment includes the original charges against O’Dell and codefendant Bryan C. Perry, 38, of Clarksville, Tennessee, the release states.

O’Dell had federal charges of transmitting a threat across state lines to injure another person and unlawfully possessing a firearm. O’Dell and another man were arrested last year after federal agents arrived to his residence and eight or nine rounds were allegedly fired from the home.

The 45-count third superseding indictment alleges that Perry and O’Dell participated in a conspiracy to murder officers and employees of the United States government, the release states.

The pair allegedly planned, according to the latest release, to travel to Texas to shoot at illegal immigrants crossing the United States-Mexico border. According to the indictment, they also planned to murder officers and employees of the U.S. Border Patrol who would attempt to stop them.
