MoDOT to host public meeting next week to discuss construction proposal at Interstate 70/Highway 63 interchange
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the ARC in Columbia to discuss its proposal for construction at the Interstate 70/Highway 63 interchange.
The recommended proposal would include two flyover lanes connecting south Highway 63 to Interstate 70 west--which would allow drivers coming from the south to bypass the interchange to head west. It would also reduce the number of signals in the intersection from three to two. It would eliminate about 17% of current traffic in this intersection and simplify--as much as possible--the intersection itself.
This plan would also eliminate the left exit (a bridge) from Interstate 70 onto the Business Loop 70 in order to allow room for the flyover lanes; and to divert funds required to improve the safety of that bridge to the rest of the project.Â
MoDOT does not have funding to do all at once but will phase it in over time. A timeline was has not been released.
