Insider Blog: Tracking another round of storms and a cooler, fall-like end to the week

After a hot weekend in Mid-Missouri, we've started off the week on a wet note with a strong low pressure working its way through the Plains and Midwest over the last 24 hours.

We'll continue to be cool overnight in its wake, as lows Monday night drop into the low 50s.

Clouds clear out and briefly warm us up on Tuesday into the upper 70s before our next system starts inching toward Mid-Missouri Tuesday night into Wednesday. The setup with this storm system will be similar to what we say take shape Sunday night and Monday, with low pressure dragging a slow-moving cold front across the region.

Severe weather is likely across parts of western Kansas and Oklahoma on Tuesday evening, but the environment is not as favorable by the time storms enter Mid-Missouri on early Wednesday morning. A couple storms could bring some isolated gusty winds, but the overall severe weather threat is low.

Storms enter Mid-Missouri from the west before sunrise and become more scattered along the front on Wednesday afternoon. The front looks to linger across the state on Thursday, triggering scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder.

Post-frontal rain could hang on through Friday as another deep upper-level low barrels through the Midwest. This will push a large cold air mass into the upper Plains and Great Lakes through the weekend, keeping us below average temperature-wise Friday and through the weekend. Another inch of rain is possible through Friday.

Rain clears out of the area later on Friday, leaving us with highs in the mid-60s. We should be mostly in the clear for high school football Friday, but it will be breezy and chilly by the time the sun goes down with temperatures in the 50s at kickoff.

The weekend looks much more fall-like with highs in the mid-upper 60s and sunshine, perfect for apple or pumpkin picking, and opening the windows during the day.

Leaves have started to turn a bit more in the last week, with near peak color taking hold across southwest Missouri. This would be a great weekend for a drive as we're getting closer to our peak color by the end of the month.
