Jefferson City man arrested after shooting a gun to disperse a crowd on Tuesday evening

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police responded to a disturbance on the 600 block of Georgia Street on Tuesday evening at 6:13 p.m.

As officers were arriving, police reported hearing a gunshot when they arrived on the scene.

Officers identified the residence where the shot originated. After surrounding the home, contact was made with the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident.

The initial investigation determined that the suspect fired a round into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd. No one was injured as a result of the weapons discharge or the disturbance.

Based on prior history, the male is prohibited from possessing a firearm. He is in custody at the Cole County Jail awaiting formal charges for unlawful use of weapons, unlawful possession of a firearm- felon in possession and second-degree assault.
