Locals say they are not deterred from going out in Downtown Columbia following recent shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

CPD says that two people were shot during the altercation, officials said that they two victims were taken down to a local hospital in private cars to treat their life-threatening injuries.

The shooting took place in the 10th block of South 10th Street in downtown Columbia.

Harpo's general manager, Charlie Smith, said that he and his other staff members heard the shots being fired, and put the club on lockdown.

"As soon as we heard that, we just followed protocols, we locked down the building, we escorted all the staff and guests down to the basement, until CPD arrived and secured the scene." said Smith. Smith said that the altercation did not start inside of Harpos, nor did the shooting take place directly in front of it.

Tristin Campbell was downtown at a local hookah lounge when the shots began.

"This is the closest I have ever been to a shooting, I guess it just makes you want to be careful," said Campbell. "The music was so loud that I didn't really hear anything, like gunshot wise, but I saw a bunch of people rush out of the club and kind of go around the corner, and naturally I kind of followed. And then a few minutes later we just saw like seven cop cars show up."

Marquis McCaster is a Columbia native, and says that the recent downtown shootings haven't deterred him from going out, but have made him more aware of his surroundings.

 "I mean, it definitely make you worry, about like, your surroundings, and be more vigilant," said McCaster.

CPD said it does not have any suspects at this time.
