Name of dead suspect released after officer-involved shooting in east Columbia after chase

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting with a Boone County Sheriff's Office deputy in east Columbia Sunday morning. Boone County deputies identified the man as Blain D. Johnson of Columbia.

Capt. Brian Leer reported a chase began on Sunday morning when a deputy recognized a vehicle connected to a potential kidnapping.

A chase ensued and ended at south Rangeline Road and east Richland Road.

Officials reported the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran before producing a weapon; law enforcement has not specified what type of weapon. The deputy reportedly shot back at the suspect before killing him.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will investigate the officer-involved shooting. According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, deputies will conduct an internal investigation.

The Columbia Police Department is also investigating the shooting and possible kidnapping.
