COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A judge plans to set a trial date for Joseph Elledge's child abuse case.

Both sides of the case got together in the hearing Monday to discuss it.

Elledge is accused of hurting his child back in 2019. He is charged with:

  • Abuse Or Neglect Of A Child (No sexual contact)
  • Endangering The Welfare Of A Child
  • 3rd Degree Domestic Assault

Elledge was sentenced to 28 years in prison for second-degree murder of his wife Mengqi Ji.

Prosecutors say they have nearly 300 witnesses endorsed for the case but promised to trim the list down.

Elledge's attorney asked that the whole trial take place in Warren County, where the jury will be picked from.

Previously Elledge pleaded not guilty to these charges against him in March 2020.
