State, county offices will be closed Friday to commemorate Juneteenth national holiday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri state Office of Administration will close all state offices tomorrow to celebrate Juneteenth.

Boone County government offices will also be closed Friday in observance of Juneteenth.

University of Missouri System President Mun Choi announced in a press release that university operations and classes will be closed Friday in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is the nation’s new holiday that recognizes the day that slavery came to an end in the United States.

It is the nation's first new national holiday in almost forty years.

Juneteenth has been previously recognized by Missouri law in Section 9.161, RSMo.
