Cover your plants! Widespread frost is expected Friday morning

A Frost Advisory is in place for all of Mid-Missouri overnight into Friday morning as temperatures are expected to dip to near or just above freezing. A Freeze Warning will go into effect overnight for Phelps and Gasconade counties, where the overnight low will dip to near 32 degrees.

A strong cold front came through last night, leaving us with a 25-30 degree temperature drop Thursday afternoon. Skies continue to clear this afternoon, and winds will ease overnight. The calm conditions will allow temperatures to fall into the low to mid-30s across much of Mid-Missouri.

A few clouds north of I-70 could make frost patchy in some areas, but it's a good idea to bring in any porch plants that could be sensitive and cover up sensitive plants in the garden tonight. You may have to scrape a thin layer of frost off your windshield around sunrise when temperatures are the coolest.

Friday is cool in the afternoon, but a wind shift to the south Friday into Saturday morning should prevent another night with frost on Saturday morning.
