St. Louis Cardinals players test positive for COVID-19, Friday night game postponed
ST. LOUIS, Mo (KMIZ)
UPDATE 12:49 P.M.: A statement from the St. Louis Cardinals sent out in a tweet Friday afternoon said two players tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday night.
The tweet included the testing was conducted prior to a Wednesday game against the Minnesota Twins.
The players' names were not released in the statement.
Cardinals staff members and the team were instructed to self-isolate inside their hotel rooms in Milwaukee until further notice.
All teammates and staff members traveling with the team will be tested for COVID-19 the tweet said.
ORIGINAL: The St. Louis Cardinals postponed their game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday afternoon due to two positive cases of COVID-19.
"The Cardinals' organization is consistent with protocols to allow enough for additional testing and contact tracing to be conducted," the club said in a press release.
St. Louis has not said who has tested positive.
This is the first game in the central division that has been affected due to the virus. So far, positive tests have been limited to the eastern teams in the league: the Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Baltimore Orioles.
