Early morning apartment fire at Russellville Senior Housing

RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

A fire broke out Saturday morning destroying four apartments just west of Jefferson City in Russellville.

The Russellville Lohman Fire Protection District along with Cole County Fire and Cole County EMS all responded to the call in the 12000 block of Jefferson Street around 3:00 a.m. for a fully involved structure fire. Officials spotted one building containing four units fully involved upon their arrival.

Fire crews on the scene said the Cole County Sheriff's Office was evacuating the building and surrounding area, checking for people who were supposed to be living in the apartments.

About 20 firefighters from the Cole county fire department, Regional West Fire Protection District, and the Russellville Lohman Fire Protection District helped contain the fire. All that is left is the brick foundation.

ABC 17 News crews interviewed Russellville-Lohman Fire Protection District Chief, Mitchelle Ott.

At this time Ott said there were no injuries, however, a cat and dog did die. The fire is still under investigation at this time. Fire crews cleared the scene around 6:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
