Swift Prepared Foods receives tax incentive

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A new incentive in the Swift Prepared Foods project was finalized on Thursday by the Boone County Commission.

JBS Foods announced in 2020 that it planned to build a $200 million facility that will produce different types of Italian meats. Seven months later, it congratulated Columbia as the newest pin on the company's map.

A performance agreement was approved by Boone County in 2021, and the company bought the site at 5008 Paris Road later that year in April. But it wasn’t until last week that the agreement made it through the Chapter 100 process by the Boone County Commission.

During the next 10 years, the company will get 75% tax forgiveness on property and equipment prices. Their end of the bargain is continuing to offer a certain amount of jobs.

Original documents say that Swift Prepared Foods plans to create more than 250 new full-time jobs with an average annual wage of $52,693. Nine jobs are currently listed on the JBS website, and the company held a booth at a Columbia job fair back in September.
