Crews clear the scene of rubbish fire along I-70 in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia fire and police officials cleared the scene of a rubbish fire that broke out Thursday morning along Interstate 70 East.

Crews responded shortly after 5 a.m. to reports of black smoke near the Range Line Street exit. Authorities at the scene said they evacuated a nearby neighborhood, but there were no reports of any injuries.

The scene was cleared around 6:15 a.m.

Fire crews said a shack in the woods off of the interstate. Firefighters called it a rubbish fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
