WATCH: Columbia Public Schools considers hybrid learning, delayed start

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Peter Stiepleman joined ABC 17 News This Morning to talk about the return to learn.

In the interview, Stiepleman said the school board is considering a hybrid model of learning, with students in-person some days while learning online other days. He said this is to adapt with the changing situation of the coronavirus pandemic.

Stiepleman also said the hybrid model allows the district to control the number of kids in school to better allow for social distancing.

Right now, CPS is planning to return to school on Aug. 25. However, the school board is considering pushing the start date back to after Labor Day.

The health department said a delayed start would make sense, especially with college students returning to town.
