Man shot during family disturbance in west Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police say a 46-year-old male had been shot during a family disturbance in west Jefferson City on Thursday afternoon.

About 10 police vehicles were at the scene in an area of townhomes on Ventura Avenue just blocks from a major retail area.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and later transported to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

The shooting victim was wanted by the Jefferson City Police Department for a prior domestic assault that occurred at this same address.

A 30-year-old male suspect was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

People who live in the neighborhood told ABC 17 News that violent crime is unusual there.

Detectives are currently investigating the weapons offense and its’ relationship to the earlier domestic violence call.
