Cole County officials announce murder charges in 1991 case

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 2/27: The Cole County prosecutor said William "Chris" Niemet has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Greg Jones' death.

ORIGINAL: Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler plans to hold a news conference Thursday in regard to a 1991 Russellville killing.

Wheeler will hold the news conference at 3 p.m. at the sheriff's department, 350 E. High St. The sheriff's department in a news release said the sheriff and Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson would have no comment until the news conference.

Authorities said Friday that they had arrested a suspect in the 1991 killing of Greg Jones in Russellville. The suspect was a juvenile at the time of the murder. Jones was reported missing on April 24, 1991, and his remains were found by a neighbor on June 8, 1991, between Route D and Stringtown Road.

The case is being reviewed by the Cole County Court's Juvenile Division, Juvenile Court Administrator Michael Couty said Tuesday. A certification hearing to declare the yet unnamed suspect as an adult is pending.
