FRIDAY UPDATES: Boone County reports healthcare system capacity moves to yellow status

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting that 54 new coronavirus cases were added to the information hub on Friday.

Of those 54 new cases, 47 cases were added on Wednesday. The rest of the cases were reported throughout the month of June. The county delays reporting cases by two days.

The dashboard is showing 32 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals. There are five patients are in the ICU and two patient is on a ventilator.

Boone County healthcare system capacity has moved to yellow. Yellow status means hospitals are operating within the standard capacity and meeting any of the following criteria:

  • Delaying non-emergency patient transfers from referring hospitals due to capacity for greater than two (2) days, or
  • Delaying non-emergency patient transfers from referring hospitals due to staffing for greater than two (2) consecutive days, or
  • Delaying non-urgent procedures and operations to provide additional inpatient capacity

Additionally, 47,083 COVID-19 cases were recorded previously.

Boone County is reported to have a low COVID-19 community level, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.

The district reported a 45.3 14-day rate on Tuesday. These are only cases identified in areas served by Columbia Public Schools.

CPS reports that 20 district facilities (10 elementary schools, four middle schools, two high schools and four other district-wide facilities) currently have staff out because of COVID-19.

The district is reporting 21 coronavirus cases in staff across the district. The breakdown in staff shows 11 staff members at an elementary school, five staff members at middle schools, two staff members at the high school level and three staff members at district-wide facilities who have tested positive for COVID-19. Three staff members at elementary schools have to quarantine due to being in close contact.

The district reported 10 district facilities that have reported coronavirus cases in students. In the district, there are five out of 21 elementary schools, four out of seven middle schools and one district-wide facility have reported coronavirus cases in students.

There are four elementary students, five middle school students and one district-wide facility with an active coronavirus case in the district. The district is reporting one case at the elementary school level is currently in quarantine.

State of Missouri reports over 10,000 new COVID cases in the week ending on Wednesday

 The state of Missouri is reporting new 10,557 coronavirus cases for the week of June 9 through Wednesday. New cases increased by 612 cases compared to the previous week, a 6% increase.

The state reported 816 patient hospitalizations and 72 patients in the ICU for the week of June 22.

The dashboard is showing COVID community levels for the central region to be low with cases down by .7% compared to the previous week. The central region includes Howard, Boone, Audrain, Montgomery, Gasconade, Osage, Cole, Callaway, Miller, Camden, Morgan, Moniteau and Cooper County.

Maries County is considered in the southwest region and cases are up 10.4% in the region. Pettis and Saline County are considered in the Kansas City region and cases are down 4.4% in that region and the region is considered to be in the medium COVID-19 community level.

Across the state, there are nine communities that are considered to have a high COVID community level. Across Missouri, 33 counties are considered medium COVID community level including Camden County. The rest are considered in the low level.

The omicron variant remains the dominant variant in Missouri. As of the week of June 5, the state is reporting the BA.2 lineage is 31.6% of cases, the BA.2.12.1 lineage is 36.8% of cases and the BA.5 lineage as 31.6% of cases.

Cole County reports 17 new COVID cases

The Cole County Health Department reported 17 new coronavirus cases on Thursday. The county added one new case on Wednesday and 16 new cases on Wednesday.

According to the dashboard update, there have been 17,923 total cases in the county since March 2020.

The health department is reporting that 60.8% or 46,641 of county residents have received at least one dose of the COVID Vaccine.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports Cole County as having a low COVID-19 community level.

The Jefferson City School District reported no new coronavirus case in a student or staff on Monday.

The district is reporting no active cases in a student and one active case in a staff member.
