WEDNESDAY UPDATES: Cole and Boone County report single-digit COVID-19 case increases

Cole County Health Department reported nine new cases coronavirus cases.

The health department reports a total of 270 cases in long term care facilities and 7,654 residents from the county that caught COVID-19.

The county reports 111 COVID-19 deaths, the most in Mid-Missouri.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting 7 new COVID-19 cases.

The health department is currently reporting 86 active cases, a seven case decrease from Tuesday.

The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 17,468.

The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 17,289, a 14 case incease from Tuesday.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services dashboard has reported the latest five-day average as 10.

The dashboard is reporting the positivity rate of 11.8% for the week of Feb. 19 through last Thursday.

The county continues to trend down as there have been 35 straight days of single or double-digit case increases. It is also the 26th day in a row of new cases under 50. It has now been six days with less than 20 new cases a day.

The health department is reporting the total number of hospitalizations in Boone County is 28.

The number of Boone County residents hospitalized is reported to be 3.

The dashboard is reporting seven COVID-19 patients in the ICU and four patients on ventilators.

The hospital status remains in 'Green' status. 'Green' status is when hospitals are operating within licensed bed capacity; accepting patient transfers from referring hospitals within standard care operating procedures.

The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 32,896 residents have received their first dose in Boone County.

The county has the third-largest percentage of people that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 18%.

Saline County has the largest with 18.6% of the population have received the first dose of the vaccine. Howard County is second with 18.2% and Cole County is fourth with 17.4%.

State health department reports 200+ COVID-19 deaths

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 225 more COVID-19 deaths early Wednesday morning.

More than 8,100 Missourians have died from the coronavirus pandemic, according to the state dashboard.

Health department spokeswoman Lisa Cox said in an email the deaths came from the weekly check of death certificates. The check confirmed some deaths happened months ago:

  • October 2020 - 2
  • November 2020 - 1
  • December 2020 - 4
  • January 2021 - 153
  • February 2021 - 65

The health department has performed the weekly checks since September.

Even though health officials reported 225 additional deaths, 216 were added to the dashboard. It's unclear when the other nine will be reported. Recently, the full increase has been added over two days.

Department officials also reported 387 more COVID-19 positive cases. The pandemic total went up to 479,069.

Since Monday, new coronavirus case increases have fallen below 500.

The state's seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate fell slightly to 4.5% on Wednesday. It has continued to fall over the last three months.

Health department data said more than 1.3 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in the state with 14.5% of the state's population having initiated the vaccination process.
