COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 10:17 p.m.: Columbia Water and Light, as well as Columbia firefighters, were called to the 100 block of Third Avenue for a downed power line around 10:15 p.m. Friday night. CFD is blocking the road to eastbound traffic.

UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: Columbia Water and Light crews responded to the intersection of West Ash and West Boulevard late Friday night. Utility crews worked on a power line in the area.

More than 1,600 Ameren electric customers are without power in Mexico. The electric utility's outage map shows there are two outages affecting customers. The first outage was reported at 9:22 p.m.

A dozen outages have been called out in Boone County. The Boone County Electric Cooperative outage map shows 11 outages are affecting 111 customers. The Water and Light outage map shows one outage in north Columbia is impacting six customers.

UPDATE 8:20 P.M.: An outage reported on the Business Loop 70 knocked out power for about 2,200 people late Friday night. The Columbia Water and Light outage map shows it was reported at 8:03 p.m.

Boone County authorities closed a lane of St. Charles Road in north Columbia for a downed tree. A tweet from Boone County Joint Communications says the tree fell near the Remm Road intersection.

UPDATE 6:20 p.m.: Boone County Electric crews were able to restore power for more than 500 customers. The utility's outage map shows five outages are still affecting about 180 customers. Ameren, Three Rivers Electric and Columbia Water and Light are also reporting outages Friday night.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m.: Boone Electric Cooperative is reporting more than 700 members without power in five separate outages.

In the 65203 zip code, 264 Boone members were without power, with another 188 without power in the 65201 zip code. Two outages were reported between Pierpont and McBaine and another in northeast Columbia, according to the utility's online outage map.

Ameren Missouri reported continuing outages in Hallsville and Moberly affecting hundreds of customers.

Information on the cause of the outages was not immediately available.

UPDATE 4:20 p.m.: Columbia Water and Light says a tree weighed down with ice caused an outage Friday afternoon in south Columbia.

Crews were still working to remove the tree and restore power to the approximately 100 affected customers a little before 4 p.m.

Columbia Public Works on its Twitter account asked anyone who sees fallen branches in the road to report them to emergency dispatchers by calling 311.

UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: Columbia Water and Light said on its Facebook page that a truck hit a utility pole near Paris Road and Hathman Place, causing the outage.

Many electric customers but not all had been restored by 3 p.m., the utility said. Water and Light confirmed another outage affecting about 100 customers near Nifong, Green Meadows and Providence.

UPDATE 2:55 p.m.: Columbia Water and Light's outage map no longer showed the large outage near College Avenue and Business Loop 70.

However, a smaller outage affecting 115 customers was reported on South Providence Road near Nifong Boulevard.

Boone Electric Cooperative reported an outage near Ashland affecting 55 customers.

ORIGINAL: A power outage affected nearly 1,200 Water and Light customers in central Columbia on Friday afternoon.

The Columbia Water and Light outage map showed 1,196 customers without power near Business Loop 70 and College Avenue on Friday afternoon. A reporter at the scene saw a truck that had crashed into a utility pole.

It wasn't clear if the crash was weather-related.

Freezing rain was falling just after 2 p.m. and weather forecasters expected rain to continue for several hours.

The area remained under a winter weather advisory through midnight and ice continued to collect on trees and power lines. Some roads were slick, with the MoDOT traveler information map showing state highways covered or partially covered with ice. Authorities reported several slide-offs beginning Friday morning.

Boone Electric Cooperative did not report any outages in Mid-Missouri at about 2:15 p.m. Ameren Missouri reported about 100 customers without power in Hallsville.

American and United flights at Columbia Regional Airport were canceled for the day.
