COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Human remains found this summer in central Columbia are those of a local man reported missing in late July.

The Columbia Police Department said Thursday that remains found Aug. 22 in the 100 block of Austin Avenue are those of Clayton Jacobs, 58. Jacobs' loved ones reported him missing July 29. Police appealed to the public for help finding him in early August.

Jacobs was last heard from July 25, police said in August.

Police said in a news release that the remains were identified using medical records. Jacobs' next of kin have been notified.

A cause of death has not been determined.
