JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Police Department investigated a Tuesday evening crash that sent two people to the hospital.

Police responded to the 300 block of Rock Hill Road just after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Witnesses told police a maroon Chevrolet sped away from Cherry Hill Court onto Rock Hill Road, according to a news release from JCPD.

One lane of Rock Hill Road was temporarily closed to traffic.

The driver of the vehicle swerved to the left, causing the driver to lose control of the car, police said. The car then skidded and rolled over, coming to a rest on the driver's side.

According to a Facebook post by the Jefferson City Fire Department, one person was able to get out of the vehicle on their own, but another person in the vehicle was removed by firefighters. The department said both people were taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are still investigating the crash.
