Douglass Family Aquatic Center opens ahead of holiday weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Another pool has opened up in Columbia.

The Douglass Family Aquatic Center will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday through Sunday for the rest of the summer.

The pool will also be open Monday on the Fourth of July.

Columbia Parks and Recreation delayed the Douglass Family Aquatic Center opening due to a lifeguard shortage.

Aquatics supervisor Sydney Philpot says a pool is important to a community.

"It just gives more people access to pools maybe some people are lower-income maybe they don't want to pay the prices at Albert-Oakland cause they are a little bit more, but at Douglass, it's only a $1.50 to get in. So it's a lot cheaper, and I've been told that Douglass is a hidden gem, so a lot of people enjoy coming here," said Philpot.

Lake of the Woods Pool will remain closed for the 2022 aquatics season. Little Mates Cove at Twin Lakes will also remain closed, due to structural and mechanical issues.
