Police identify victim in Fayette homicide

Authorities searching for shooter

FAYETTE, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Fayette Police Department identified Monday's homicide victim as 29-year-old John L. Turner from Poplar Bluff.

Turner was found dead from a gunshot wound in a vehicle in the 200 block of South Linn Street at about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The Howard County Sheriff said authorities received a call from someone reporting someone had been shot in their vehicle. The caller was able to provide a description of someone leaving the scene.

Officials believe the shooter left the area because there were reports of someone being picked up by a vehicle who matched the suspect description.

Residents are not being told to stay indoors because investigators believe this is an isolated incident.

Turner's autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.

Police were still searching for the shooter on Tuesday.
